School Faculties
The academic life of the school is organised into a series of faculties each led by the Head of Faculty. Within each of the major faculties are found individual subject disciplines - each of these has a Head of Department or teacher in charge of that subject. When you click on one of the faculty headings you will find details of courses that are run and other relevant information.
There is a further faculty at Porthcawl Comprehensive School and this is the "Pastoral Faculty". The teachers within this faculty are responsible for the pastoral well-being of the children in their particular year group. Should you have any reasons to contact the school about any aspect of your child's education, the relevant Head of Year is your first point of contact.

The Individual Studies (IS) faculty provides a wide range of learning support strategies for children who may require additional help. Porthcawl Comprehensive School is an inclusive school and aims to meet the needs of all its pupils. The IS faculty will ensure that all pupils have access to the full school curriculum.
In order to achieve this, the faculty aims to:-
- Keep a register of all pupils who require additional support (SEN Register).
- Screen all pupils on entry to Porthcawl Comprehensive School to identify difficulties with literacy skills - support is offered to pupils with a reading/spelling age of less than 10 years.
- Provide withdrawal support to:-
- Boost literacy skills
- Enable pupils to manage behaviour more effectively
- Ensure that special examination arrangements are put in place for pupils who are entitled to them (external exams only).
- Liaise with outside agencies and act upon their advice.
- Liaise with members of staff and keep them informed about pupils on the SEN Register
- Offer twice yearly reviews of progress with parents at Parents' Evenings and at the end of the school year (and at other times where necessary).
- Take into account the views of parents and pupils and work co-operatively to develop an Individual Action Plan (IAP).
- Make decisions with parents about placing pupils on (or removal from) SEN register.
- Secure additional support for identified pupils, where necessary.
