Face Masks

Message to learners and parents / carers
I have sent you the latest letter from B.C.B.C. concerning the wearing of face covering / masks in secondary schools. As you will read the letter is clear that face coverings / masks should be worn in all communal areas. At our school all communal areas are all parts of the school where lessons are not delivered. Classrooms, laboratories, workshops, practice rooms, dance-hall, gyms etc are teaching spaces where the face coverings / masks may be removed. At the end of each registration the learners will be asked to put the face covering / mask on. Any learners without a face covering / mask may be asked to contact their home so one can be brought to school. Learners may well be refused entry to the sixth form hall or canteen if not wearing a face covering / mask. In some cases I will issue a temporary mask for use on a particular day.
I understand and fully acknowledge that some of us have valid reasons not to use the face covering or mask and this position will be respected.
I do hope we can all arrive at a common position with respect to the face covering / mask. As I often say to the learners ’’I wear my mask to protect you and your family, please do the same for me’’.
I do hope these notes make good sense when read with the letter from B.C.B.C.
As always, stay safe and take care.

Dear parents/carers The wearing of face coverings in schools Welsh Government has updated its guidance on the use of face coverings in schools. This is based on new advice from Welsh Government’s Technical Advisory Group. To reduce the risk of transmission of COVID-19, parents and carers should wear face coverings when visiting any school in Bridgend. This includes all internal and external areas, including those used for drop-off and collection. Parents/carers are advised to maintain clear social distancing at all times, particularly at the school gates, to reduce the risk of transmission and set a good example to pupils. Year 7 and older pupils are now required to wear face coverings in all areas outside of the classroom. This includes on the school yard, at break times, at lunch times and at other times of the day when pupils are congregating in those areas (eg waiting to enter the school). You are reminded that Year 7 and older pupils are required to wear face coverings on any dedicated school transport. The wearing of face coverings will not apply to pupils who will be exempt, or may not be able to handle the wearing of a face covering eg pupils with special educational needs or disabilities. Along with regular hand washing/sanitising and social distancing, these additional measures will help reduce the risk of spreading COVID-19 in schools. Thank you for your help in doing all we can - together - to keep ourselves and others safe. Yours sincerely Lindsay Iorwerth Harvey (Mr) Uned Cymorth Cyfarwyddiaeth Addysg a Chymorth i Deuluoedd (UCCACD) Education and Family Support Directorate Support Unit (EDSU)
