Update on Exam Results 2020 – Information for learners and parents/carers

Update for sixth form. The WJEC has made their changes to the grades at AS and A2 and so we will be able to print these tomorrow. So please check below the times for year 12 and year 13.

A: Year 11

We are looking forward to welcoming back learners in year 11 to receive their GCSE and other qualifications on Thursday 20th August. We are fully aware that this has been a very challenging period for everyone, and recognise that learners and parents/carers may be anxious about receiving these results.

The awarding process being employed this year is complex and has never been used before. The examining board (WJEC) and regulatory body (Qualifications Wales) have produced information to explain how results have been determined.

As always, we want to do everything we can to support learners to progress to the next stage of their education or employment. Senior staff will be available to offer advice and help with any queries or concerns you may have.

Arrangements for Year 11 to receive results – Thursday 20th August
We have already provided information about how to receive your results, and the control measures we have had to put in place at school. We are continuing to follow stringent control measures. In particular, this means:

• • ensuring that those who have coronavirus (COVID-19) symptoms, or who have someone in their household who does, do not attend school to pick up results
  • ensuring good hand and respiratory hygiene
  • an enhanced cleaning regime
  • minimising contact and mixing as far as possible.
  • practise social distancing in line with current government guidance. This includes operating a one-way system in order to enter and exit venues.

All results are available for collection from the Sixth Form Hall. Results will be available for Year 11 learners between 8.30 – 10.30 a.m. Results for learners not able to attend in person will be posted home, as communicated previously. To conform with GDPR regulations we are only able to provide results to learners not parents/carers.

Centre Assessment Grades

Teachers at Porthcawl Comprehensive School know their learners well and we are confident that we have assessed grades with a high degree of accuracy. The Centre Assessed Grades (CAGs) submitted to the exam boards were agreed by the school following an internal quality assurance process; this means that they are not the sole responsibility of any individual teacher.

B: Year 10

GCSE results for year 10 learners will be posted home on Thursday 20th August.

C: Year 12 and 13

Updated awarded exam grades can be collected by learners from school on Thursday 20th August.

Year 12 and 13 to collect the results in the Jubilee Theatre during the following times –

Year 13 between 10am – 10.30am and Year 12 between 10.30am – 11.00am.

Any queries regarding the updated results can be discussed with Ms Crook and Mrs Williams during these times

Finally, we are conscious that this has been a difficult and anxious time for you as a result of the disruption caused by the coronavirus pandemic and the uncertainty over the grading process. We hope the most recent Welsh Government announcement has alleviated some of these concerns and we will do our best to support and guide our learners over the coming days and weeks.
