A level Results
Well Done to our Sixth form students.

This year 114 students sat an amazing 446 qualifications. The most remarkable fact is the excellent quality of the A Level results; the pass rate (A* to E) was a fantastic 97.2%, with 25.5% A/A*. This outstanding performance underlines Porthcawl as a truly inclusive school. We are delighted that students have reached, and in most cases exceeded, their potential.

Students at AS and A2 have had their endeavour rewarded with excellent results. There is a large debt of gratitude for teachers who have worked so hard once again this year and for parents who have supported their sons and daughters. Excellent results truly reflect the effective partnership between a school, its learners and the support from home.

There were several standout performers who have done exceptionally well. The following students have achieved 3 A’s or better:- Anna Biju, Beth Burke, Emily Childs, Charlotte Coleman, Steffan Davies, Marcus Fish, Emily Jones, Rhys Leary, Elen McCloy, Megan Morris, Catherine Pickett, Lauren Slaughter, Maya Squires and Maja Zeleska.

An interesting feature of this year’s entry is the number of students who applied for and have been accepted to read Medicine at university. It is most unusual for a school to have 7 successful applications; we wish them all the very best in their future studies.

Head Teacher Mr Slade commented that this excellent series of results will ensure Porthcawl students have secured places at some of the best universities in the country. Mr Slade continued to congratulate staff and students who were praised for their hard work and steadfast dedication. Mr Slade concluded that the results were especially impressive given the large size of the entry; with almost a thousand papers being sat at A Level.

The following departments did particularly well with A* to C above 70%: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Maths, Further Maths, Art & Design, Textiles, History, Sociology, English, Drama, Media Studies, Music, P.E., Geography, D.T., Tourism, Performing Arts, Law and Skills Challenge Certificate.

GCSE Results

Given the fact that the school has enjoyed a number of years of consecutive improvement, we are thrilled with this year’s results. Porthcawl Comprehensive School is delighted to report a general picture of improvement in terms of our pupils’ performance.
This year, there is a most significant change in the way that the Welsh Government is recording the achievements in schools. All published figures are based upon the first entry only and further or multiple entries do not count.
The percentage of pupils achieving 5A*- C (Level 2) is a very credible 83%. The percentage of those who achieved their 5A* – C (which includes English and Maths) remains above 70%.
Those who gained 5A*/A improved to a remarkable 40%; this is a most exceptional performance locally and nationally.
The school would like to congratulate all students on their individual results and we wish them well for their future with such an exceptional performance, we are expecting a bumper return to our Sixth Form.
Subjects where pupils performed especially well with 70% or higher A*- C grades include; English Language, English Literature, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Agoredd Cymru, Beauty, Business & Finance, Drama, French, Geography, German, Hairdressing, History, ICT, Music, PE, Skills Challenge Certificate, Sport and Textiles.
Headteacher Andrew Slade, praised the pupil, staff and parents / carers for the huge collective effort which has been so richly rewarded.
The final word must go to the exceptional performance at A*/A; 49 pupils gained 8 or more A*/A grades, while the number who achieved 10 or more A*/A was 39. Congratulations to the following pupils on their outstanding results.
