Fantastic A level results

Monday, August 20, 2018 Exams

We are so proud of our sixth form students.
This year 127 students sat an amazing 271 qualifications. The most remarkable fact is the excellent quality of the A Level results; the pass rate (A* to E) was a fantastic 99%, with 32.5% A/A*. This outstanding performance underlines Porthcawl as a truly inclusive school. We are delighted that students have reached, and in most cases exceeded, their potential.

Students at AS and A2 have had their endeavour rewarded with excellent results. There is a large debt of gratitude for teachers who have worked so hard once again this year and for parents who have supported their sons and daughters. Excellent results truly reflect the effective partnership between a school, its learners and the support from home.

There were several standout performers who have done exceptionally well. The following students have achieved 3 A’s or better: Jack Davies, Harry Evans, James Evans-Jones, Bronty Freeman, Chloe Green, Laurence Hunt, Hannah Jenkins , Katie John, Lois John, Rhys Lewis, Tara Phillips, Maksym Randall and Anushruti Yadav.

Jack, Harry and Anushruti are all off to study Medicine. Interestingly Laurence Hunt will follow his sister to Cambridge. Alex is reading Veterinary Science in Pembroke College and her younger brother will study Medicine at Magdalene College. Finally, best wishes to our Deputy Head Boy James, with his prestigious talent we will see him on stage and screen.

Head Teacher Mr Slade commented that this excellent series of results will ensure Porthcawl students have secured places at some of the best universities in the country. Mr Slade continued to congratulate staff and students who were praised for their hard work and steadfast dedication. Mr Slade concluded that the results were especially impressive given the large size of the entry; with almost a thousand papers being sat at A Level.

The following departments did particularly well with A* to C above 75%, Travel and Tourism, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Maths, Computing, Business, Art, History, English, Media Studies, Welsh, French, Geography, Drama, Further Maths, Welsh Baccalaureate and Music.
